“Leaving Encante”
gouache on paper
50 x 15 inches (127 x 38 cm)

Painting of the boto, or Amazon River dolphin, we made for our current exhibition at Narwhal Gallery in Toronto. There is quite a lot of myth revolving around the boto. locals in the Amazon region believe the dolphins to be magical, that they live in a paradisical city under the river called Encante, and that at night they transform into beautiful human beings and leave the river to enter village parties and seduce people and impregnate them. Some people claim to be part boto to this day.
